The Studio27 team

Studio27 is the commercial creative studio for the Evening Standard (in print and online) We are an award-winning content creation agency. Our work spans a variety of forms, which include but are not limited to, print and digital content and advertising, social campaigns, video, AR/VR and experiential activations. While most of the work focuses on creating content campaigns for clients, the Design team also work on ES branding concepts, trade marketing campaigns and supporting other areas of our growing business.

Studio27 is divided into three areas: design, project management and content. The culture is a can do, fast-paced and focussed on creating great work that works for our clients. We pride ourselves on being creative, flexible and effective.

About you

You are an enthusiastic creative that enjoys taking ownership of your work and being an integral member of the design team. You have experience in publishing as well as digital and social media design, as you will be creating assets for print, digital display ads, email campaigns, social campaign and pitch documents.

The Studio 1827 team

Story Studio is divided into three areas: design, project management and content. The culture is can do, fast-paced and focused on creating great work that works for our clients. We pride ourselves on being creative, flexible and effective.

About you

  • You are an experienced and skilled lifestyle journalist with excellent writing, commissioning and editing skills.
  • You have a proven track record in creating compelling content for print, digital and social channels across multiple content verticals.
  • You are comfortable working across multi-media platforms and able to work within set brand guidelines.
  • You have experience of working in a fast-paced environment with tight, multiple deadlines and project management.

Job purpose

You will help clients tell their brand story or create contextual content for their brand messaging. You will do this by commissioning and editing content that represents all the key content verticals across our print, digital and social media platforms. We strive to create content that engages and excites and we believe that all content should be first and foremost interesting and inviting to the reader. You will bring that vision to life.

Key responsibilities

  • Commission commercial native features and advertorials for all platforms.
  • Edit and rewrite copy for digital, print and social media channels.
  • Work across key Evening Standard lifestyle content verticals – including fashion, beauty, food, fitness, health
  • Attend brainstorm, idea workshops and put forward ideas.
  • Build an influencer network: bloggers and celebrities that we can commission as contributors.
  • Liaise with and manage freelancers, when required.
  • Keep abreast of competitor activity and bring fresh thinking to the business.
  • Run photo and video shoots as required.

Skills and experience

  • Excellent knowledge of InDesign and CMS platforms
  • Excellent knowledge of all social media platforms

The News team

The News team is at the heart of the Evening Standard with a long-standing reputation for breaking exclusive, agenda-setting stories that are followed by national newspapers, broadcasters and media around the world.

As we move to a fully-integrated, digital first operation, the News team will continue to ensure that the Standard is first with breaking news across all platforms.

Role purpose

A reporter’s role is to work with the News desk and senior executives to produce exclusive, digital first content and comprehensive news coverage across all platforms. The role is a core part of the team for the Evening Standard.

About you

You have newsroom experience and are capable of working across multiple platforms to produce and source digital first exclusive stories, pictures and video and cover breaking news around the clock.

You have the ability to produce swift and accurate content, thrive in a fast-paced news environment and take direction from managers.

Skills and Experience

  • Experience working in a dynamic and fast-moving news environment, a quick, accurate and confident writer
  • Ability to work with the News desk and senior executives to help produce digital first exclusive content and cover breaking news across multiple platforms.
  • A good understanding of media law and the Editors’ Code of Practice to help ensure all content is legally safe and compliant with expected standards.
  • A capable communicator able to respond to direction from the News desk and senior staff.
  • Knowledge of current affairs including politics, crime, business, arts, celebrity news, education, health, environment, technology, foreign news and Royal stories.
  • Experience using CMS systems.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities

  • Producing and sourcing digital first stories, pictures, video and audio content for the London Evening Standard across all platforms.
  • Helping to ensure the Evening Standard continues to be first with breaking news.
  • Delivering content in a timely manner, legally safe and compliant form.
  • Helping to generate and deliver ideas for special projects, investigations and in-depth pieces.
  • Responding quickly to instructions from the Newsdesk and senior editors and ensuring these are delivered in full.
  • Working the necessary hours to help staff the newsroom across the full week.
  • You will be accountable to the Executive Editor/Head of News and other senior executives.

About you

Role purpose

  • Represent the Evening Standard to a select agency patch with best in class Trading Solutions
  • Deliver and be accountable for the revenue goals across all Digital platforms, newspaper & Magazine & Events where appropriate

Key responsibilities and accountabilities

  • Deliver daily revenue and weekly targets that contribute towards the annual Digital, Newspaper, Magazine and Events budgets for all ESI platforms.
  • Achieve daily revenue and weekly targets that contribute towards the annual Print and Digital budgets for all ES platforms
  • The Account Director will be accountable for delivering the Evening Standard Display budget and also for multi-platform trading across ES.
  • You should drive both traditional IO based business as well as programmatically delivered campaigns, in conjunction with the Programmatic team.
  • The Account Director should be able to provide the Head of Media Team with a succinct and reasoned appraisal of the business position and effectively manage up accordingly
  • To create a plan that will ensure focused levels of proactivity – using agency and client segmentation to prioritise work.
  • To be a key member of the sales team that thrives on creativity and innovation – taking part in internal initiatives
  • Create a flow and process that makes best use of our insight and data to sell ideas, opportunities and packages
  • Weekly meeting with your manager to set sales and activity focus
  • Deliver on KPI’s as set by line manager

The Role

The Evening Standard’s Webby and Press Award nominated audio team is expanding. We’re looking for two podcast journalists to work on our ground-breaking Google Assistant news operation, and develop long-form shows in areas including news, business, sports and culture.

About You

You’ll need to know not just how to tell a complex story in 20 seconds, but also how to create a compelling audio series with episodes of 20 minutes’ length or more. You’ll be a journalist or audio producer with a minimum 3 years’ experience, exceptional writing abilities and demonstrable ability to self-edit using Adobe Audition. A wide knowledge of UK current affairs (and London in particular) is essential, a good knowledge of US politics is an advantage. These roles will require some presenting, so a confident voice is also required.
